UFC Fight Night 84 Fighter Bonuses Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping Take Fight of the Night




The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to London on Saturday for UFC Fight Night 84: Silva vs. Bisping The contenders for the promotion’s typical post-fight awards and $50,000 bonuses began immediately with two finishes in the first two bouts. 

The Fight of the Night bonus was awarded to the main event fighters, Anderson Silva and Michael Bisping.  Bisping took the fight to the former champion, knocking Silva down in the second frame.  Silva rebounded and nearly finished the fight in the closing seconds of the third round.  He delivered a knee that knocked Bisping down.  The bell signifying the end of the frame sounded as Silva was celebrating what he thought was a win.  The fight continued and Bisping emerged as the eventual winner by unanimous decision.

England’s Scott Askham earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his first-round knockout of Chris Dempsey on the preliminary fight card.  Askham landed a head kick and finished with a series of strikes.

The second Performance of the Night bonus went to Finland’s Teemu Packalén of this 24-second finish of Thibault Gouti.  Pakalen secured a rear-naked choke after taking Gouti’s back and forced the Frenchman to tap out.
